Welcome to the Nith Riverside Cottages Southwest Scotland
Superb
Self Catering cottages in Scotland set in beautiful gardens on the Banks of Scotland's
River Nith, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland with extensive views across
Scotland's Southern Uplands.
The
Nith Riverside Self Catering accommodation in Scotland is set amidst two acres
of secluded gardens, on the outskirts of the Royal Burgh of Sanquhar,
amidst the dramatic hills of Southwest Scotland,
they offer comfortable self catering accommodation and excellent
facilities, we are also pet friendly so there is no need to leave a member of the family behind when you come away.
The
cottages are connected to the Blackaddie
Country House Hotel
a family run hotel combining
high standards of personal care with friendly informality and fantastic
food.
With
spectacular views of the river Nith, the cottages are perfect for
a self catering family holiday, the outdoor enthusiast or a relaxing
break. The hotel next door is open to the public at all times so
there is no need to cook for yourselves all the time! The bar in
the hotel is a warm friendly place with log fires in the evenings
or whenever the weather turns cold.
A
wealth of activities are available in this lovely area. The cottages
are situated meters from Southern Upland Way and on the banks of the river Nith in Scotland and provide
an ideal base for walking, bird watching, salmon and trout fishing,
golfing on the local course or at world-famous Troon or Turnberry,
to canoeing on the River Nith - some of the best white-water in
Scotland - or gold panning in the scenic Mennock Valley.
Dumfriesshire
is an unspoiled corner of Scotland, mountainous in the north and
with fertile plains in the south and down to the coast of the Solway
Firth. A break in one of our self catering cottages is the perfect
way to get away from it all.
The imposing ruins of Caerlaverock castle, are encircled by a wide
moat and surrounded by the extensive marshlands of the Caerlaverock
Wetland Centre - a firm favourite with birdwatchers. Threave Castle
is also well worth a visit. This massive tower is set on an island
in the river Dee and you need to take a boat to get there. Built
centuries later, the baroque masterpiece that is Drumlanrig Castle
only 10 miles from the cottage has a fantastic collection of artworks
and precious items. The extensive parkland here is very popular
with cyclists.
Robert Burns spent his last years in the county town of Dumfries
(there is a story that he also lived for a while in what is now
Blackaddie House Hotel adjacent to the self catering cottages) and
the Robert Burns Centre here tells his story. Other towns of interest
are Moffat, an attractive Victorian spa, and Langholm , birthplace
of the poet Hugh McDiarmuid. And don't miss Gretna Green, still
popular with eloping couples after all these years while the hotel
adjacent to the cottage was built for the Admiral Crichton way back
in 1540.
